About us

A studio where design meets the workshop floor

Modula started as a two-person atelier making one sofa at a time. The scale has changed; the method has not.

Our manifesto

“A sofa is not a product you replace. It is the thing your family sits on for twenty years — so we build the parts nobody sees exactly as carefully as the ones everybody does.”
Ivan RusakFounder, Modula

How we work

Every project begins with a conversation about the room — light, traffic, the way you actually sit. Then we draw, prototype the seat depth in foam, and only after that do we cut fabric.

Frames are joined with dowels and glue rather than staples, cushions are filled by hand, and each cover is sewn by one maker from start to finish. It takes longer. It lasts longer.

Natural materials

Solid oak and ash frames, wool and bouclé upholstery, natural latex and feather fillings.

Made to order

Nothing is mass produced. Each piece is cut, sewn and assembled after you choose it.

Quiet design

Soft radii, honest proportions and a restrained palette that ages well in any room.

Sourcing

The quiet part of making furniture well

Timber we can trace

Oak and ash from certified Belarusian forestry, bought as whole boards and cut in-house.

Built to be repaired

Covers unzip, cushions refill, frames re-glue. We stock parts for every model we have made.

Cleaner workshop air

Water-based finishes and glues only — better for our makers, and for the room it ends up in.
